Sterling silver 925: what it means and why it's a quality choice

On every piece of silver jewellery you can find a small hallmark — “925”. This is the fineness, which shows that the alloy contains 92.5% pure silver, while the remaining 7.5% is a ligature, most often copper.

Why not 100% silver? Pure silver (999 fineness) is too soft for everyday jewellery — it bends easily, deforms and quickly loses its shape. Adding copper makes the alloy harder and more durable while keeping silver's characteristic shine and colour.

How to recognise genuine sterling silver 925: look for the “925” hallmark on the piece and check that silver isn't magnetic (a magnet won't attract it). Over time a light patina may appear on the surface, which is easy to remove with a special polishing cloth — this is a natural property of real silver, not a sign of a defect.

Sterling silver 925 is the optimal balance of beauty, strength and price, which is why the entire СтоСяйв collection is made from it: rings, earrings, chains and bracelets for everyday wear.
